Hi, I’m Mindy.

I’m the maker behind Milkweed, baby!—a small, colorful shop in the Kansas City area for things with a little more personality and a lot more heart.

I started Milkweed in 2009 because I’ve always needed to make things with my hands. Since then, the shop has grown and changed right along with me. These days you’ll find hand-embroidered hats, beaded earrings, patches, baby goods, and giftable little finds. The common thread is in the details: color, texture, a wink of nostalgia, and the kind of finish that makes you want to pick something up for a closer look.

Most days, you’ll find me at my workbench in Prairie Village, stitching, beading, trying a new idea, or convincing myself I don’t need another shade of thread. I make in small batches and let a piece take the time it needs. Slow-made, high-vibe, not your basic stitch.

My daughter is part of the creative conversation, too. We swap ideas and make things together, and Winnie’s Wonderful Wonderland is her own corner of the shop for the pieces she creates. We both love dance, but Milkweed has room for all kinds of people and all kinds of joy—from tiny first outfits to a hat that feels so you.
